Capitals & Flames Get Big Win–Canadiens Lose Again!
The Washington Capitals and the Calgary Flames got big wins last night to pull them back into their respective series’. The Capitals shutout the New York Rangers 4-0. Simeon Varlamov got his first career playoff win to go along with his first playoff shutout, actually it was the first NHL shutout of his career. Alex Ovechkin played the role of set up man by setting up Washington’s first two goals.
The Calgary Flames got a huge win playing back on their home ice over the Chicago Black Hawks 4-1. Flames fans energized the building and the players fed off the energy. It was great to see Calgary’s offence click. David Moss put the game away with his two goals, both were scored within the first 5 and a half minutes of the 3rd period. The Flames now trail the Black Hawks 2-1 in the series. Game 4 will be on Wednesday night, should be another great game.
What in the world is happening to the Montreal Canadiens. They are totally being outplayed, outworked and out hustled on nearly every possession. At the halfway point in the season Montreal was on top of the eastern conference, since then they have been in a free fall having to hang on to barely make the playoffs. Now they are down 3 games to none to a Boston Bruins team that is playing with toughness and grit. It’s simple they just look like they want it more than the Canadiens. The Bruins won 4-2 last night at the Bell Center to take a commanding lead in the series. Montreal has never come back from a 3-0 deficit. We’ll see if their season comes to an end on Wednesday or if they will live on to play another game. Tim Thomas was solid in nets again for the Bruins.

Look for goalie Jaroslav Halak to be between the pipes on Wednesday night as the Montreal Canadiens try to live for another day of dreams that will not come true. Boston is just too strong and deep with replacement players when the need arrives. Last night’s game by the Canadiens was played without Mathieu Schneider and Alex Tanguay who joined Andrei Markov,Robert Lang and Francis Bouillon all out with injuries. As I mentioned in an earlier comment, let others come to play for Washington and not rely on Ovechkin to carry the load. You will notice that Washington won with rookie 20 year old Simeon Varlamov in nets. He recorded his 1st NHL shutout. Tonight Detroit will close out their game with Columbus with a win, taking the series in 4 straight,as well so will Vancouver in 4 straight wins over St.Louis Look for a hard hitting, fight filled game between Pittsburgh and Philadelphia.
