Ducks Overcome Red Wings In Triple Overtime–Hurricanes Blank Bruins
Anaheim goaltender Jonas Hiller was a wall as he turned away 59 0f 62 shots he faced in a triple overtime win over the Detroit Red Wings. This game was a nail biter beginning to end, at no time did either team go up by 2. Every time one team scored the other responded. Todd Marchant found the net 1:15 into the 3rd overtime to seal the victory for the hard working Ducks. Playing in Motown in front of their hostile fans is not fun, Anaheim deserves so much credit for this gritty victory. The series is now tied up at 1-1 and will shift to the Honda Center in Anaheim where Duck fans will be waiting for them. Anaheim has been a solid road team this year and their high level of play has continued into the postseason. Ducks forward Ryan Getzlaf, who began the day tied for the NHL lead in playoff scoring, scored and had an assist on Chris Pronger’s go-ahead goal 34 seconds apart midway through the first period. Getzlaf has a point in six straight games this postseason. The Ducks have won five straight playoff games against Detroit in overtime, winning twice after regulation two years ago in Western Conference finals en route to hoisting the Stanley Cup. 47-year-old Chris Chelios played in his 262st playoff game to extend his own record.
In the Eastern conference, game 2 between the Carolina Hurricanes and the Boston Bruins seemed to take on a different tone. The Hurricanes came out of the locker room refusing to be pushed around anymore, they pushed back and came away with a huge 3-0 shutout win on the road. Cam Ward was spectacular in net as he stopped all 36 shots that came his way. In the third period alone Ward made some awesome saves to preserve the shutout. Joe Korvo and Eric Staal led the Hurricanes offence with a goal and an assist each. The Bruins will now have to regroup as the series moves to Carolina’s home arena, where the Hurricanes should be able to hold their home ice. If they do, then it will be the Hurricanes that advance to the Eastern conference finals when all is said and done. Boston goalie Tim Thomas’ winning streak ended at 11 games, including the last six of the regular season.

Such a beautiful day for hockey. Your article brings tears to my eyes (not really, but if I was that emotional, which I’m beginning to be about hockey, then I’d cry for joy).
Go GANES!
GO CAPS!

Anaheim and Detroit, played long and hard. The floater that beat Detroit goalie Chris Osgood was screened by Anaheim forward Scott Niedermayer. What a way to lose a game. A tough loss by an aging team. Detroit better wake up early or will see their chances of continuing deep into the playoffs disappear as the next 2 games will be played in Anaheim.
Carolina is no slouch team. They play competitive hockey and when goalie Cam Ward is on his game as he was yesterday the chances of Carolina winning are super.
Tonight I eagerly await the super series between Pittsburgh and Washington. Sidney Crosby should be all fired up to score after an early celebration of his goal that didn’t cross the goal line. Could have been but wasn’t. Just continue to put super gasoline into Alex Ovechkin’s tank.
