Hawks Win Overtime Thriller Over Red Wings

The series shifted to the windy city for game 3 and boy did the series seem to shift.  After getting dominated in Motown for games 1 & 2 the Chicago Blackhawks beat the Detroit Red Wings 4-3 in an overtime thriller at the United Center.   From the drop of the puck the Blackhawks attacked and attacked and by early in the 2nd period they had built up a three goal lead.  Detroit then flexed their muscles as they so often do and scored three times in less than four and a half minutes to tie the game up.  Both teams were held scoreless in the 3rd and were content to go to overtime to settle things.  After the Detroit comeback the young Hawks showed why they are in the Western Conference Finals.  The Hawks came out in OT with the same fire to start the game and it payed off.  Less than two minutes into the OT period Patrick Kane put the bisquit in the basket beating goalie Chris Osgood to seal the victory giving Chicago a much needed win.  Detroit now leads the series 2-1 with game 4 coming on Sunday.  For Kane it was his second goal of the game, he led Chicago’s offensive charge.  Samuel Pahlsson and Andrew Ladd added the Hawks’ other goals.  It was the second straight game in the series between the longtime rivals to be decided in overtime.  Detroit won 3-2 in the first extra period Tuesday night, The Blackhawks are 3-1 in overtime this postseason.

  1. Last night both Chicago players as well as their loyal fans left the hockey rink with a sigh of relieve. The Black Hawks beat Detroit in overtime. After taking an early lead of 3-0 they quickly gave pack the 3 goals within 5 minutes in the 2nd period. Chicago replaced goalie Nikolai Khabibulin with Huet to start the 3rd period. For what ever reason Khabibulin did not even sit on the bench for the balance of the game. Was he injured ,sick or discussed with himself that left him in the dressing room by himself. The next most important game for the Hawks at home is to win and tie up the series before heading back to Detroit.
